In recent years, there has been an explosion of do it yourself, maker and hacker spaces in Europe. Through makers and do-it-yourself initiatives, 'hacking' is moving into the everyday life of citizens. This article explores the collective and political nature of those hacks by reporting on empirical work on electronic waste and do-it-yourself biology hacking. Using Dewey's experimental approach to politics, we analyse hacks as 'inquiry' to see how they serve to articulate public and political action. We argue that do-it-yourself and makers' hacks are technical and political demonstrations. What do-it-yourself and makers' hacks ultimately demonstrate is that things can be done otherwise and that 'you' can also do it. In this sense, they have a potential viral effect. The final part of the article explores some potential shortcomings of such politics of demonstration.

The authors explore transformations in the surveillance and discipline framework proposed by Foucault (technologies that "allow to see," the panoptic as a completely closed space) by analyzing new Global Positioning System (GPS) care technologies. The authors contrast the antinomadic characteristics of traditional care practices for people with dementia with the new "in-movement" GPS care devices. They outline three main displacements: the definition of a new space that erases the distance between separated social and sanitary spaces; the lifting of the boundary between the home and the neighborhood; and finally, we point out the importance of movement in this process. These devices show the emergency of new micropractices of power and control: a new anatomy of surveillance. Grounded on movement, they transform physical barriers into risk alarms that do not block users' way; instead, they generate information that mobilizes others. The authors refer to the notion of kinevalue to explain how these devices turn living organisms' motility properties into a value that can be managed, as well as the central feature around which new exercises of patients' security and caregiving may be deployed. Through the analysis of a pilot project on GPS telecare devices carried out by the Spanish Red Cross, the authors suggest a new diagram of the control and management of subjects based on their movement, called "kinepolitics."

From our ethnographic experience in chats, for the study 'Entre Dones a la Xarxa: Un estudi sobre les interaccions socials entre dones en espais de conversa electronics,' we try to question those methodological approaches to the virtual areas that adapt directly the ethnographic method, which until now has been used in the offline scope: What is new in the ethnographic works online? Is still the participant observation & the semi-structured interview useful for the new virtual scope? Which are their limits & possibilities? During our work of participant observation in chats we have wanted to experiment with the ethnographic method in order to try to respond to all these questions.

In diesem Aufsatz stellen wir unsere ethnografischen Forschungserfahrungen mit dem "technoaktivistischen" Workshop "Riereta" in Barcelona dar, der sich der Entwicklung und Implementation von freier Software und Informationstechnologien als Angeboten für politische Projekte und Aktivist(inn)enkollektive der Stadt gewidmet hat. Von diesen Erfahrungen ausgehend werden wir eine Reihe von methodologischen aber auch epistemologisch-politischen Fragen beantworten: Welche methodischen Werkzeuge, die die semiotisch-materiale Dimension erfahrbar machen, können eingesetzt werden? Wie soll Technik/Technologie in unser Forschungshandeln eingeführt werden? Wie lässt sich eine Methode entwickeln, die mit den Wünschen und Lebensweisen der Teilnehmenden übereinstimmt? Oder: Wie können die vielfältigen dissonanten Stimmen, die jedes ethnografische und praktisch-kreative Verstehen ausmachen, dargestellt werden? Diese Fragen lassen sich aus unserer Perspektive in der Frage danach zusammenfassen, wie aus der Sozialforschung und der ethnografischen Praxis Formen technopolitischen Engagements entstehen können. Dazu gliedern wir den Aufsatz entlang folgender drei Achsen: (1) Beziehung zwischen den Forschungssubjekten und -objekten, die sich von einer eher vagen partizipativen Perspektive des Ko-Forschens hin zu einer epistemischen und im engeren Sinne wissenschaftlichen Ausdrucksperspektive veränderte; 2) die verwendete Methodik, die einer performativen und virtuellen Ethnografie nahestand und sich auf technische Werkzeuge wie TikiWikis (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TikiWiki) stützte; sowie (3) die Produkte des Forschungsprozesses, also kollektives und situiertes Verstehen über den Technoaktivismus.
